The Tarot Root: Week of January 17, 2016
Ace of Pentacles

Welcome back to the Tarot Root, your weekly spot to wonder, "Is it written in the cards?" The answer is probably, "No," because we aren't trying to tell the future, we are just trying to be more mindful. Now that that is out of the way... the card we pulled for this week is the Ace of Pentacles.
This week's card is a great one for January. Pentacles are the suit of material goods and earthly matters. They represent the physical world, our bodies, our nourishment, and our money. Aces are the cards of new beginnings, of preparing for a new project or journey. I don't know about you, but January is the month when I take care of my yearly doctor visits, take a look at our budget, and tell myself I am going to eat more than all the cheese all the time. One year Rachel and I even did a raw diet during the month of January. Let me tell you something - the reason you lose weight on a raw diet is because you have to wait so damn long to eat the food you are preparing. Interested in raw quinoa meatless balls? Awesome. Simply prepare all the ingredients, roll them into adorable balls, then put them in the dehydrator for four months until they are dry enough to stay in that adorable ball shape.
Take a look at the card. You are standing in a garden - an earthly paradise. Everything seems to be pretty great here, but just beyond the garden gate you can see majestic mountains looming over the horizon and calling to you. Now is the time to map out your route to the summit of that mountain. You might think that you are in a great place in your life as far as your health and finances go, but there is still more that you can achieve. This week, think about how you can improve your material world, and make a plan to get there.
January has been a pretty busy month so far, and I haven't had a chance to schedule my doctor appointments. I think this card is telling me to get the heck on that. Maybe it is also urging me to put another batch of raw meatballs in the dehydrator so I can have a delicious raw feast in April.
